If 2019 were a baby it would be almost time to give birth. It has taken me nearly 9-months to get into a rhythm. Better late than never, right? Not exactly, see #6.

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  1. Change isn’t optional. It happens with or without your permission. Like my friend Biba says, “you either sit down or get put down.” Sitting down is much easier.
  2. Hurt people hurt people. Sounds simple enough, but it can be hard to remember that when you’re on the receiving end. A little compassion can go a long way. Compassion is not always easy to come by.
  3. Broken hearts mend slowly. But they do mend.
  4. It’s okay to put “call your grandmother” on your schedule. Not remembering to call on your own does not make you a bad grandchild. Written reminders are fantastic!
  5. Day planning is underrated.
  6. Time can cause anxiety. Try not to watch the clock too much. And don’t measure your success by the calendar. It takes Jupiter 12 years to make it around the sun once. So take your time.
  7. Watching videos on speaker in public places is rude. That includes the iPad toting parents spoon-feeding
